Develop New Telehealth Programs & Expand Existing Ones

Deliver care to patients where they are

A step-by-step approach to building a robust and sustainable telehealth program

Telehealth is rapidly emerging as a vital modality of access to quality healthcare. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “During the first quarter of 2020, the number of telehealth visits increased by 50%, compared with the same period in 2019, with a 154% increase in visits noted in surveillance week 13 in 2020, compared with the same period in 2019.” Healthcare organizations, small and large, rural and urban, are incorporating telehealth services as an integral part of their care delivery model. Aspire Technology Partners and MedTech InterLinx join hands to provide a step-by-step approach to building a robust and sustainable telehealth program.

Broadband

Broadband capacity consists of a downlink and an uplink speed, and it is measured in Megabits per second (Mbps). Typically, the uplink speed is the limiting factor.  For telehealth applications, it is recommended to have an uplink speed of 2 Mpbs minimum.

Telehealth Equipment & Systems

Telehealth technology consists of a variety of technology components that are interoperable and scalable.  Typically, these include:

  • Terminating equipment for the broadband connection
  • Switches and routers connecting to the terminating equipment to bring the broadband capacity into the healthcare facility.
  • Wi-Fi access points that enable the broadband capacity to be accessed over wireless connectivity from anywhere within the healthcare facility
  • End-user equipment including telehealth carts, fixed telehealth systems and peripherals and classroom and conference room telepresence systems

Telehealth Clinical & Educational Programs

These are the programs and services that can be developed once the broadband capacity and telehealth technology systems are reliably integrated and tested.

It is recommended to begin a telehealth program development with a vision of the clinical and educational programs that you plan to develop for the near-, mid-, and long-term.  With this vision in hand, designing and implementing the broadband capacity and the telehealth technology to support the desired clinical and educational programs, and  scaling and expanding the broadband and technology infrastructure with the development and growth of the programs, will be easier.

Services

As mentioned earlier, we recommend starting your telehealth program development with a vision of the clinical and educational services you would like to provide in the near-, mid-, and long-term.  Once the vision is articulated, we will begin the assessment of the telehealth technology components and conduct the broadband capacity requirements to support the desired programs and services.

This is a valuable and beneficial approach if your organization seeks Federal, State and foundation grants for telehealth program development.

The Aspire & MedTech Interlinx partnership provides:

  • Clinical & Educational Program Development Consultations
  •  Telehealth Infrastructure & End-user Technology Assessment and Selection
  • Broadband Assessment & Network Design

Grants

We highly recommend leveraging Federal, State and foundation grant funding opportunities to support the implementation of your organization’s telehealth program development. With a well-organized plan, the support of the Aspire and MedTec teams, and enough lead time, your organization can develop a grant funding roadmap to fund the three key areas of telehealth program development: (1) Broadband capacity upgrades, (2) Telehealth technology implementation, and (3) Telehealth Clinical and Educational Programs

There are multiple funding opportunities in each of the three areas of telehealth program development mentioned above.

  • Telehealth Infrastructure & End-user technology
  • Telehealth Clinical & Educational Program Development

The challenge for an organization is preparing to submit proposals within the typical 30-60 day window for grants.  The Aspire and Medtec teams will help your organization develop a telehealth program development plan that is integrated with the overall strategic plan, and then build a customized grant funding road-map to secure funding for the telehealth program.
