Technical Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Technical Project Manager (PM) is a member of the Project Management Office (PMO), which is the centralized point of customer engagement, resource management, deliverable assurance, and project/program reporting.  In general, PMs will manage complex IT projects based on the Project Management Institute Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMI PMBOK) framework and established internal workflows, tools and templates.  We take the handoff from Sales and facilitate the implementations through to project closure.

You will lead multiple projects and initiatives and must have hands on experience in the areas of:

  • (Cisco) Unified Communications
  • (Cisco) Routing and Switching
  • Wireless
  • Telecom
  • Storage and Storage Area Networking
  • Cloud-Deployed/Cloud-Delivered Software
  • Data Center Networking
  • Migrations
  • Upgrades
  • Security

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own full project life cycle from initiation to closure
  • Disseminate requirements, develop and manage multi-functional project schedules; identify risks, manage scope and resource changes, and monitor progress against plan, advising stakeholders of change requests
  • Maintain current documentation on all projects including project plan, RAID log, status reports, meeting minutes, lessons learned, timesheets, budget tracking, change orders, and resource utilization reporting according to company and industry standards and best practices
  • Ability to gather, assess, and provide sound recommendations of options during complicated project/program deployments
  • Identify and drive resolution of issues that affect project schedule including critical path analysis
  • Define, generate, and assess performance metrics (KPI’s) for the project(s) ensuring all necessary data are available for critical decision-making
  • Proactively communicate to management and executives on project status, risks and change control
  • Ensure effective communication within the multi-functional teams: Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Customer Success, Managed Services, Accounting and key stakeholders
  • Manage projects with top-down oversight throughout entire execution to ensure success as defined by adherence to standards of scope, budget and timeline
  • Deliver a creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the ‘big picture’ view
  • Improve the adoption of project management principles of teamwork, prioritization, process, team accountability and communication
  • Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to grow and mature these capabilities for the organization
  • Maintain a positive “can do” attitude, balancing experience with an innovative approach to each unique situation
  • Ability to maintain long term relationships with customers with a keen eye on customer relationships, retention, and providing premium service
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated in ability to communicate on all levels of internal and customer organizations on technical and business-related aspects of assigned projects
  • Up to 20% travel required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years hands-on experience in technical IT Infrastructure related business, with 4+ years in a Program/Project Management position demonstrating a proven successful history
  • Waterfall and agile methodologies experience
  • Extensive leadership experience and strong teaming abilities
  • Experience in the deployment of Cisco products and technologies, such as: Unified Communications, Telecom Technologies, Wireless, Networking, Data Center, Cloud, and Security
  • Outstanding written, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to influence
  • Outstanding teammate with ability to develop and foster multi-functional relationships
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong experience in leading complex and concurrent IT projects
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Project, Visio and all Office Tools
  • Strong IT Infrastructure deployment experience in a Professional Services organization of either a Manufacturer, or Value-Added Reseller
  • PMP® Certification, ITIL 4.0 Certification, and/or Agile Certification is strongly preferred
