Automation Engineer

Location: Eatontown, NJ


Our Managed Service Practice located in Eatontown, NJ is growing rapidly, and we need a skilled automation engineer to help with automating, reporting and scripting. The ideal candidate for this role will have several years of scripting and coding experience with networking and security systems using Python and PowerShell. We are also looking for experience with report writing and database administration. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing various applications and scripts to automate activities within our Managed Service Practice in addition to other areas of our business.


  • Develop scripts in Python and PowerShell to automate various activities performed within the Managed Services practice
  • Work closely with peers, project managers and Client Advocates to understand automation requirements and opportunities to increase efficiencies and scale within the Managed Service practice and other departments
  • Build and manage custom integrations between key business applications
  • Develop and maintain high quality custom API Connectors for integrations using Python, PowerShell, Java, C++, or another Object-oriented language
  • Assess requirements from a solution and data architecture perspective, recommend and develop technical solution
  • Design report layout and determine best way to deliver data to the end user
  • Design and implement underlying data models and datasets for the various applications and data sources
  • Develop and maintain high quality custom SQL Queries and stored procedures for the various applications using SQL Server
  • Create functional and technical documents for custom solutions
  • Troubleshoot issues, resolve complex system problems, and develop and manage complex workflow rules, data validations, and object customizations
  • Actively practice Test-driven development (TDD) while developing new features and refactoring existing code
  • Curate and manage the lifecycle of automation assets
  • Provide leadership on automation best practices
  • Provide operational support to various service teams and reporting applications
  • Must be able to present and demo new features that are implemented
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 1+ years of Experience with enterprise scripting languages (Python and PowerShell)
  • Understanding of networking and/or security architecture
  • Experience coding with Microsoft SQL Server (2008/2012/2016)
  • Experience coding with APIs and REST APIs

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years of API, SQL, and scripting experience
  • 2+ years of Cisco networking and/or security experience
  • Experience with Cisco Management Dashboards and their APIs (e.g., Meraki, Umbrella, AMP, DNA Center, StealthWatch, and ISE)
  • Experience with network automation platforms (such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience with object-oriented languages (Java, .NET, C++), JavaScript and web services
  • Experience with Ticketing System Integration (ServiceNow and ConnectWise)
  • Experience with Network Monitoring System Integration (ScienceLogic and ConnectWise Automate)
  • Experience with front end reporting tools (Sharepoint, Domo, BrightGauge, Jasper, etc.)
  • Familiarity with DevOps environment
